Real-Time Input Forms Public Art

B LINE PULSE Mobile Game

We were commissioned by King County cultural service agency 4Culture, and King County Metro to design a first-of-its-kind mobile gaming application that allows commuters to interact with artist-designed visualizations based on their real-time input.

“B LINE PULSE” pushes the boundaries of gaming and explores the relationship of transit, information and art in this digital age. Using a mobile device, metro riders opt to respond to daily prompts during their commute. These responses create a "hybrid" visualization, transforming statistics and numbers into ever-evolving public artwork.

The project is designed to deepen public understanding of the potential for games and social networking tools to be rich, artistic and culturally significant, with the potential to reach and connect people in creative and inspiring ways.
