27 people. 486 bottles of juice. 3 days.
With the holidays behind us, some of my co-workers and I were looking for a way to jump start a healthy New Year. Very serendipitously, we learned that our client Evolution Fresh was organizing a 3-day group juice cleanse that would serve as the perfect kick-starter for us. With three packages to choose from (depending on intensity), 27 of us signed up for the “adventure/challenge” of drinking 6 bottles of juice a day with the option of one small salad (kale and tomato with lemon juice and avocado) and a little almond milk, if needed. With the hopes that the camaraderie (and a good sense of humor) would see us through, we cheered each other on as we counted down to the anticipated start date.

Like most people facing the “unknown,” there were mixed feelings as the clock ticked down. Trepidation. Excitement. The last minute questioning of one’s sanity. So, yesterday afternoon, I asked some of my co-workers how they felt about today’s start. Here are some of their responses:
“I’m excited, it’s the perfect way to jump-start better nutrition and eating habits. AND, I’m out of Frango Mints, so the timing is perfect.”
“I am nervous that it is not going to be enough food. I'm a 200 pound man that works out, so I am worried about getting enough protein.”
“I’ve got to say that I am a tad nervous for the juice cleanse tomorrow. As a woman who loves to eat, living off juice for 3 days seems like a big undertaking. I’m thankful my husband is going to be out-of-town on business these next 3 days for fear that I may not be as pleasant to be around (although he might debate whether I’m normally pleasant to be around). My kids, on the other hand, could be in BIG trouble!”
“I too am a bit…mmm…not sure, about the juice ritual thing. I'm ‘not sure’ because I'm not sure if I can stick to the plan, but I'll do my best. I'm also wondering how ‘to the letter’ we have to be on this? That being said, I'm also excited about how all this will play out.”
“With all those liquids, I’m wondering if I’ll need to have all my calls forwarded to the ladies’ room. At least exercise won’t be a problem, considering how many trips I’ll be making to our ‘facilities’ located nearly a city block from my desk.”
I think overall there was a positive theme of willingness to jump in and give it our all! And with one day behind us now (not going to lie and say I’m not happy about that!), it will be interesting to see how everyone feels tomorrow morning. Be sure to check back for a recap at the end of each of the next three days.
